Background
Location/Description: Located north of the City of
Moorhead along the Red River, this area suffered substantial
flooding in 1997, 2001, and 2006. Approximately, 150 homes were
damaged and another 200 homes were isolated from public safety and
utility services in 1997. To mitigate future damages to the Town of
Oakport caused by flooding, the construction of a dike is required.
Where required, buyouts will be undertaken to remove homes from the
floodway. The overall project involves constructing 43,105 lineal
feet of FEMA certified dike system, which includes several road
raises.
